It's 2023: Why are you still using single-use plastic?

Single-use plastic is one of the biggest environmental challenges we face today. It's estimated that by 2050, there could be more plastic in the ocean than fish if we don't take action now. The good news is that there are many simple steps you can take to reduce your consumption of single-use plastic. Here are a few suggestions to get started:

1. Bring your reusable shopping bags: Plastic bags are one of the most common single-use plastic items that end up in the ocean. By bringing your reusable shopping bags, you can help reduce the number of plastic bags that end up in landfills and oceans. Keep a few reusable bags in your car or purse so you always have them on hand when you go shopping.  

2. Carry a reusable water bottle: Instead of buying plastic water bottles, bring your reusable water bottle with you wherever you go. There are many options available, including stainless steel, glass, and BPA-free plastic. Not only will you reduce your plastic consumption, but you'll also save money in the long run.  

3. Say no to plastic straws: Plastic straws are another single-use plastic item that is commonly found in the ocean. Instead of using plastic straws, try using reusable straws made from metal, silicone, or glass. If you don't have a reusable straw, simply skip the straw altogether.  

4. Use reusable containers and utensils: When packing your lunch or ordering takeout, opt for reusable containers and utensils instead of single-use plastic. Invest in a set of reusable containers and utensils that you can keep in your car or at work, so you're always prepared.

5. Recycle properly: If you do end up using single-use plastic, make sure to recycle it properly. Check with your local recycling program to see what items can be recycled in your area. Remember to rinse out plastic containers before recycling them to avoid contamination.

6. Choose products with less packaging: When shopping, try to choose products with less or reusable packaging. Whether shopping online or in-store, look for brands that use minimal packaging.
